COMMON TUTORING QUERIES

FAQ: FAQ

HOW DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR SERVICES?

I accept cash, check, Venmo or Paypal.

WHAT DOES A COACHING SESSION LOOK LIKE?

This depends on the type of project. Here are some scenarios:

1. A CLIENT FEELS LOST OR OVERWHELMED WITH THE WRITING TASK:

I would request the assignment directions to review first followed by setting up a meeting via phone, video, or in-person to work through the task.

(This scenario relates to students of all ages and grade levels, as well as for creative writers. It doesn't matter who you are and how much you like or hate writing, this feeling is common!)

2. PREPARED DRAFT FOR FEEDBACK AND REVISION HELP.

= I will request the assignment goals first and foremost along with the client's drafted work.

a) I will review the work and will offer a reply via email and or video message. The review of the client's work is asynchronous, meaning, not live.

b) If the client would like to review the draft together, that is certainly doable.

c) The follow-up is up to the client. We can speak on the phone or dialogue via text or email.

3. RESUME WRITING:

a) The client and I will converse via phone, email or text to get a general sense of what he or she wants for their resume. The client needs to send his or her current resume as soon as possible along with any updates that need to be added.

b) "Step 1 = Visual format" = I will review the current resume and will begin reformatting immediately.

c) "Step 2 = Clarity of Details & Language" = I will send follow-up questions for clarity. I may be an expert with format but I am not the expert in the client's field. I will ask a variety of questions to make sure I am representing everything correctly and clearly. This process tends to be appreciated by clients because it gives them a chance to reflect and contemplate aspects of their job tasks.

The client may be asked to complete a worksheet to help with the optimization of descriptions.

d) "Step 3" = Review draft and Finalize. Follow-up is up to the client.

4. ON-GOING + ONE-ON-ONE "CLASS":

Based on the skills the client wants to work on, as well as the time they want to spend, I will design a reasonable and valuable curriculum plan.

(Requests like this could be for academic reading or writing, or for creative writers.)

WHERE DO YOUR SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?

Depending on the task, many sessions are online and are not live.  If we needed to meet in person, we could do a virtual session, meet in my home, or at a coffee shop.

DO YOU HAVE A GENERIC COVER LETTER I CAN USE?

No. I do not believe in generic cover letters. Your cover letter should be personal, custom, and specific.
